Masters course ''Plant Biodiversity and evolution - a global perspective'', 20–27 April 2013

Stockholm University gives a master course in plant systematics each spring. The course provides advanced level knowledge of diversity, structure, and evolution of plants. Much emphasis is placed on studying and describing live material, and field studies during one week in Messinia is an important part of the course. The students explore the botanical diversity across Messinia, from the lowland farming areas and the coastline, to remote places in the Taigetos Mountains. The students are usually very enthusiastic about the experience. On top of learning botany, they meet local people, try local food, and learn a few words in Greek. The aim is for the students to get “a taste of Messinia”.
