 A. Atmospheric composition changes

This research area includes monitoring of air quality and meteorological parameters used for tracing transport of pollutants and changes in atmospheric composition as indicators of climate change. These measurements will be targeted to physical and chemical characterization of atmospheric particulate matter as well as estimation of their optical properties. The NEO Observatory will be an important link in the network of stations in the Mediterranean which forms a grid for tracing the origin of aerosols and air pollutants.

B. Simulations of air quality and climate change at global and regional scales

The NEO Observatory will provide computing capacities for simulating and analyzing pollution levels and climatic projections of future conditions, taking into account different time scales and processes involved. Studies will include local and regional scale simulations as well as hemispheric and global scale simulations for the investigation of pollution levels and variability as a result of both natural and anthropogenic sources.
