This research aims to reconstruct the geomorphological and geological changes that have taken place in the last few thousand years as a result of shore processes, coastal erosion, tectonics, and changing sea level in Messinia. It will involve field studies, retrospective studies in air photos and old maps, and modelling in a geographical information system (GIS). Further, because of the high tectonic activity of Messinia research will be carried out on tectonics and crustal movements as well as research on the frequency and magnitude of earthquakes and tsunamis in the recent geological past.
